Zululand Anthracite Colliery (ZAC) Opens New Wash Plant

His Majesty, King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu attends official opening ceremony Zululand Anthracite Colliery (ZAC) opened its new wash plant in an opening ceremony attended by His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu. ZAC is located on the border of the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve, close to Ulundi and is the sole producer of prime anthracite in South Africa. In a ribbon cutting ceremony held at the new plant, His Majesty the King, Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu, and the Managing Director of ZAC, Mr Vuslat Bayoglu, together declared the wash plant open. Afterwards, the opening ceremony continued with a number speeches from distinguished guests including Mr. Sihle Zikalala chairperson of the ANC in KZN, Judge Ngwenya from the Ingonyama Trust Board and Mr. Thabo Mokoena the Director General of the DMR and Mrs Mavundla representing the Department Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs in KZN. Attendees also heard speeches from a former employee of ZAC, and the current mayor of Ulundi Mr. Ntshangase, the mayor of Zululand district municipality Mr. M. Buthelezi, as well as the Prince Mr. M.Z. Zulu. Finally, guests were addressed by His Majesty the King, who in his address said that ZAC is a very important business in Zululand and stated that it must be protected and supported by the community and workers. The new coal processing plant has 50 ton per hour capacity and is expected to wash 3 million tons of discard in the next 5 years. This reclamation of the long-standing discard dump will decrease the rehabilitation footprint of ZAC and produce 1 million ton of salable product which will be made available for the export market.
