ASSA ABLOY South Africa, word-class door opening solutions specialist, brings yet another smart innovation to the local market with the introduction of the new Code Handle for secure and convenient interior door access control.
The ASSA ABLOY Code Handle sets the benchmark in quality, reliability, affordability, convenience and simplicity. Featuring a built-in code lock and presented in an attractive brushed stainless steel and satin chrome zinc finish, the handle is the perfect solution for locking and unlocking interior doors in areas requiring low level security. Store rooms, conference rooms, consultation rooms, etc. are for the most part not high security areas but they are usually limited access zones and therefore their doors sometimes require locking. Keys can be a liability and extremely inconvenient, especially when there are multiple users like in a training or conference room. Cutting of lost or stolen keys has cost implications and impacts security – Code Handle removes any chance of lost keys and maintains security to the area, allowing for convenient and easy code changes instantly. Traditional code locks present an alternative but they are expensive, complicated to install and not aesthetically appealing. “The new battery-operated ASSA ABLOY Code Handle ticks all the boxes and delivers a cost-effective and convenient access control solution,” says ASSA ABLOY South Africa’s Marketing Manager, Stacey Burger. “No keys are required and the door can be locked by simply entering a 4 to 6 digit code on the handle. To make things even easier, the door will automatically lock on closing when the auto mode function is selected, so you cannot forget to lock the door.” Offices can now be conveniently separated from the storeroom, the warehouse or the shop front, allowing authorised access only. Personnel can confidently leave valuables and documents in the office while on lunch and equipment can be left in the conference room during breaks. Each handle can be given up to nine different user codes which Burger explains can be easily changed at any time. “Cleaning or service personnel can use a shared code for all rooms while office personnel have personal codes,” explains Burger. If the incorrect code is entered, the lock is disabled for a few minutes and a fifth incorrect code will trigger the blocking function, preventing unauthorized entry. For maximum security at night, the door can simply be locked manually using the existing lock cylinder. In line with ASSA ABLOY’s dedication to providing best-in-class quality products that deliver reliable, safe and secure solutions, the Code Handle was subjected to rigorous testing according to EN 1906 (approximately 100 000 operations) as well as EN 1363 (fire testing). The lock’s two CR2, 3V lithium batteries were also tested, passing approximately 30 000 cycles, with one cycle equivalent to a single ope¬ning and locking operation. The lock indicates when a battery change is required. Everything is conveniently housed inside the Code Handle and no wiring is required, making fitment simple, quick and easy. The handle is available in right or left versions and fits most lock case standards (DIN, ANSI, etc.). Doors therefore do not need to be modified prior to fitment.
